Mika Tsongas grew up in Portland, Oregon, and graduated cum laude in psychology from University of Puget Sound. Her studies included an emphasis in exercise physiology and pre-medical sciences. After graduation, she moved to Colorado to teach skiing and work as a physical therapy aide, where she became an avid mountain biker and cyclist. Recognizing her passion for health, nature and a holistic approach to medicine, Dr. Tsongas completed a four-year doctoral program in naturopathic medicine, and is alicensed naturopathic physician (ND). Having grown up utilizing both naturopathic and conventional health care, Dr. Tsongas prefers to blend the best of both worlds, and enjoys addressing all aspects of a person’s health—physical, mental and spiritual. Dr. Tsongas was inspired by an introductory course in Chinese Medicine and her own experience of the effectiveness of acupuncture and qi gong (energy work). She went on to complete a four-year Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) program and is a nationally certified, licensed acupuncturist (LAc). In conjunction with her Chinese medical training, she studied extensively with a renowned Chinese qi gong and tai ji practitioner, Master Zhongxian Wu, and has practiced qi gong for over six years. Dr. Tsongas has particular interest and specialized training in women’s health care, as well as in the treatment of pain, injury and musculoskeletal conditions. She enjoys using qi gong during acupuncture treatments to help re-balance the flow of energy in the body and improve treatment effectiveness. Dr. Tsongas connects with patients, and uses her intuitive nature to help uncover the keys to each individual’s improved health and wellbeing. |
